These figures display Buffy’s orbit about the Sun (red line) as if viewed from above the solar system (right figure) and along the edge of the solar system (left figure). For perspective, the orbits of the other Kuiper belt objects (blue triangles) with semi-major axis larger than 50AU are also shown. No other KBO with a semi-major axis greater than 50AU has been found to be on such a nearly circular orbit.
The peculiarity of Buffy’s orbit was revealed through extensive followup observations obtained by the CFEPS project.
